Dr. Denny serves as the Director of the Office of Animal Care and Use.

Dr. Denny earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Missouri in 1981 and subsequently began a distinguished 26-year career in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps. He later received a Master of Science degree in Laboratory Animal Medicine from the University of Missouri in 1995, where his research focused on immunology. From 2005 to 2007, Dr. Denny served as the U.S. Army Surgeon General’s Consultant for Laboratory Animal Medicine. In 2007, he was elected President of the American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners. He is a Diplomate of both the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. Dr. Denny joined OACU in 2011 and currently leads NIH-wide efforts to support the humane care and use of animals in research and to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and standards.
