Heather Dyan Smith serves as the Associate Director of Operations.

Ms. Smith joined the NIH Office of Animal Care and Use (OACU) in 2020 after serving for more than a decade as the ACUC Program Coordinator at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to her tenure at NIA, she worked as a Program Analyst at AAALAC International and as the Head Clinical Veterinary Technician at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Ms. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech and is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), a PRIM&R Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA), and an AALAS-certified Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG).
